Bankruptcy allows debtors  a fresh start. Whether due to loss of employment, illness, divorce, or an unexpected death. Bankruptcy should not be seen as a stigma but as a second chance when one has hasfallen upon hard times. Bankruptcy will affect your credit however generally it will not do any more damage than has already been done hence the reason that you may be contemplating bankruptcy. Bankruptcy will remain on your credit for ten years but that doesn’t mean it will take you that long to rebuild a credit history. In addition “within two years of bankruptcy debtors can qualify for government subsidy Federal Housing Administration Loans with rates only slightly higher (1/2 percentage point or so) than conventional loans.” So bankruptcy can really be the beginning of a fresh start.

In this economy more and more people are defaulting on credit card payments, car payments and mortgage payments. The stigma that once associated with bankruptcy has subsided because it is such a frequent phenomenon. While debtors may have a role in their financial situations, there are other factors which some times aren ’t within the debtors control and things just spiral out of control.
